Missing his loved one caused Elvis to have a blue Christmas. He’s not the only one who recognized that this season of the year can be tough. Amidst all the Hallmark movies, maybe a service that recognizes the challenges can help.
Our annual Blue Christmas service, led by Pastor Alex and Rev. Harry Kennon, will be offered at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, December 14 in the Chapel on the 2nd floor of First UMC.
Service will include quiet readings, music, candle lighting, communion and a reception following.
Please join us and invite family, friends, and neighbors who may need just this kind of reminder that God comes into our darkness with light.

ADVENT OFFERING FOR BREAD AND BLESSINGS
Each week about 100 or more people receive a full meal from volunteers. In order to provide for food and supply costs, we are dedicating our Advent Offering (collected on Christmas Eve) to the Bread & Blessings ministry. We invite you to give generously to this ongoing ministry which helps us love the whole city and love the city whole starting right here.

December 1, marks the start of the Advent Study, Mary Had a Baby, for The Women at the Well! This study by Cheryl Kirk-Duggan and Marilyn Thornton, is based on African American Spirituals and will look deeper into the scriptural themes and historical content of four well known spirituals. (we might just have some fun with this!) Each Thursday morning (9:30-11:00am) we meet in room 208 to study, share, and show God’s love in servanthood projects. This study will be offered in person or by ZOOM. Questions and ZOOM link, contact: Carolyn McGee

Did you know ...The more things we can reuse in our homes the fewer purchases we need to make.  At our house, we wash and dry our used plastic bags and then reuse them.  It's just like washing your dishes--a little bit of soap, a little bit of water, and voila!  Plastic bags can be reused for quite a long time, reducing our need to buy more, as well as reducing our carbon footprint.
Give it a try!

METHODISM REIMAGINED:
RESURRECTED
EXISTENCE
We do not get to choose the time in which we live, but we do get to choose how we live in our time. If The United Methodist Church is to be reimagined in this era, we must realize that a vision of the church precedes a vision for the church. Read More ...
