Sun, surf, hiking, and…..TUBING!
Here are the particulars ... If you can swim (doesn’t have to be Olympic style) and are between the ages of 6 and 109, then let’s meet at James River Runners on Sunday, July 24 at 12:30. The cost is $25 per person unless we get more than 25 going and then we get a reduced price. What a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon as a church family! So we can make this come together, we need to know if you are interested. Please RSVP to Carolyn by June 12!

Expanding Children’s Chapel

Stepping Stone is a local non-profit established in 2021 to meet a unique need: to provide children age newborn to three from under-resourced families with essentials that ensure their healthy development and safety.

Items can be brought to church on Sunday or left during the week in the bins throughout the church.

It is so nice to see friends visiting on the portico and enjoying some coffee or lemonade and a treat! And please consider bringing your own mug to help cut down on waste.

Vacation Bible School - June 27 - July 1.

COUNCIL AND ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE APPROVE PLANS FOR UPGRADES

More upgrades to the physical plant of FUMC are on the way. At its regularly scheduled meeting on April 25, the FUMC Church Council approved plans for a number of improvements to the building over the next few years. These follow the recent repainting of windows and doors on the front and the renovation of Room 208. Read full report here

The C'ville Church Softball League is Back!
Games are played on Friday evenings thru July at Darden Towe Park with no covid restrictions. The slow pitch league is open to men and women 14 years old or older.

Pastor Alex is happy to report that the FUMC team had a 9-5 victory in their first outing against Westminster Presbyterian. “That new right fielder is promising,” he says.

On Monday the 8th, they served homemade macaroni & cheese with either baked Ham or Chicken. It was delicious. Those pictured are Betsy Dolliver, Bonnie Randolph, Chris & Jim Roehl, Priscilla Sprauge & Jon Scheumann. We have a wonderful time each Monday. Come JOIN us!
Erica Reitsma, FUMP TK teacher, has set up a Pampered Chef fundraiser to help offset the cost of supplies for the incoming Transitional Kindergarten (TK) class. Pampered Chef will donate a portion of the sales directly to the FUMP TK class! Please come shop for your Pampered Chef favorites and help spread the word to friends and family!
FUMP is having an Art Show!
Come and roam the halls of the pre-school to view the wonderful works of art created by our FUMP children.

THE TASSELL SCHOLARSHIP was established in memory of Patrick Wayne Tassell and is awarded to high school seniors who are members of First UMC and have demonstrated leadership and achievement in Scouting BSA, Girl Scouts, Venturing (BSA), Exploring (BSA), Sea Scouts BSA, or Camp Fire. Scholarship awards, between $1,000 and $2,000, are paid directly to the institution that the awardee will be attending in the coming academic year. Further information is available from Hu Shaffer, First UMC Scouting Coordinator.
The Application form is available by contacting the church office. Applications must be returned by June 1, 2022 to be considered.

Help the city develop climate action plans
Survey #1: The Climate Action Survey will inform strategies and actions for the City's Climate Action Plan, aimed at achieving Charlottesville's greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals of a 45% reduction by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

Survey #2:  Charlottesville's Climate Vulnerabilities Survey aims to identify the anticipated level of impact and adaptability of key community systems in response to the top climate change hazards for our area. Both surveys are open through May 20th

Here is a challenge for you:  go one week without using paper towels.
Try this instead: Find some flour sacks at a local craft store. They are cheap and absorbent and dependable for just about any mess.
