Art In Our Space
First United Methodist Church member, Mark S. Chapman is our current featured artist.
In 2007, Mark joined the local Masonic Lodge (Widow’s Sons’ Lodge No. 60 A.F.& A.M.) in Charlottesville and in 2014 he was commissioned by their Masonic Corporation both to make a stained-glass window depicting the square and compass emblem, and to paint 4 oil paintings of the Masonic 3 Blue Lodge’s Degrees and a reproduction of the Lodge’s Floor Cloth circa 1800.  In 2018, he was commissioned to paint the York Rite’s 6 Royal Arch Degrees
The exhibit at FUMC shows prints of 10 original Masonic paintings completed in 2021.

Sherando United Methodist Church
is deeply grateful for your generosity toward our church in the aftermath of the devastating fire of October 29, 2021. You and many others responded with words of love and concern and a financial gift. Whether large or small, we appreciate it because we know it comes with love.
While this fire was devastating, the people of this congregation are fixed on being faithful to God in whatever God has in store for us. We will keep you informed of our progress so you can be assured your gift was honored and used wisely.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Phyllis Lowe Breeden, Financial Secretary.

First United Methodist Church donated $1270 to Sherando UMC. Thanks for your generosity to make this happen!
Sponsor an Afghan Refugee Family

Thanks for everyone who has volunteered to be part of a core group to help resettle Afghan refugees in our community. We have enough on our team now to work with two families. Our main need at the moment is to identify housing for the families. Refugees face many challenges, including the lack of a credit history and finding adequate housing at an affordable rent in our market (2 BR, $1500 or less/month).
If you know of any contacts with houses or apartments who are able to work with those challenges, it would be very helpful. Please contact Jim Berlin (jimberlin79@gmail.com) or the church office with any leads.
Gift Cards

If you would like to help our new neighbors from Afghanastan, you can purchase gift cards from Kroger, Food Lion Walmart & Amazon and leave them in the offering plate or drop them by the church office.
We hope to deliver a stack of gift cards to the IRC office in a few weeks.
Thanks for your Help!

Our quilt ministry is alive and well.
If you know someone who needs a prayer quilt, or would like to be a part of this ministry working from your home please contact

COVID has exposed a climate justice connection. People with compromised lungs are more susceptible to the virus and more likely to die. Air pollution from manufacturing and power plants damages both the planet and the health of people, especially people of color and people in poverty who are often relegated to living near the sources of pollution. Time to speak up for those whose cries are not being heard.
