The UMC Bishops responded to the cries for racial justice on Juneteenth with the following declarations:
”We recognize racism as a sin. We commit to challenging unjust systems of power and access. We will work for equal and equitable opportunities in employment and promotion, education and training; in voting, access to public accommodations, and housing; to credit, loans, venture capital, and insurance; to positions of leadership and power in all elements of our life together; and to full participation in the Church and society”
The Bishops also held a multicultural worship “Service of Lament, Repentance, Communion, and Commitment” and invited our participation. Last week the first of several Town Halls on Dismantling Racism – Pressing on to Freedom occurred.
You can find these powerful and informative events by going to https://www.umc.org/en/how-we-serve/advocating-for-justice/racial-justice/united-against-racism and clicking on End Racism - The United Methodist Church. Scroll down until you see the links to these events. Our FUMC Church Council will soon be releasing our local statement regarding issues of racism. |

The Worship Ministry Team is staying current with guidelines for returning to our building for worship. The conference has sent out information regarding health and safety guidelines, which we will need to put in place before opening.
We would like to know what the congregation is thinking about coming together in the building. While we miss seeing each other, we want to be sure that people feel safe returning. What are the parameters you need to feel ready to return?
Thank you |
