MARK YOUR CALENDAR: ACRJ BOARD MEETING (on zoom) JUNE 11 12:30PM-2PM

In these times we hope that you are all staying healthy and safe.  As this pandemic continues, we have continued to see injustices become exposed and worsen across our nation and have been reminded that our work is more urgent now than ever before.

We are grateful for your commitment to build a better and just community for all, and on June 11 we need your voiceThe Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail board will be meeting from 12:30PM to 2PM  over Zoom. Thanks to a recent bill sponsored by our local representative Sally Hudson, the jail board will have the opportunity to choose to stop asking for citizenship upon booking, this would prevent dozens of community members from being targeted by ICE and would help make us all safer by building more trust for law enforcement within our community.

We need you to show up to this meeting on Zoom to show our jail board that we support the decision to stop asking for citizenship. The link to register and attend the zoom meeting will be available on the jail's website on June 8 (acrj.org). The Jail Board has limited the meeting to 100 total attendees, so be sure to register on June 8 to ensure you can attend. Mark your calendar and be sure to invite members of your congregation to join you.

Yours in the Movement,
IMPACT

Thank you, Congregational Care Partners

First UMC Congregational Care Partners is a group in Nurture that seeks to connect us in ways of care, support, and celebrations. Please reach out to the church to let us know about ways we can do this together.
During 2019 & 2020 FUMC worked on 3 Habitat build sites, including the Harmony Ridge project. 20+ members provided over 300 hours of effort to ensure that the Cole family has an energy efficient, safe home.

We will continue our efforts with Habitat when they deem it safe to accept volunteers. Stay tuned and click the thumbnail below for the full article!

Sometime soon, Rev. Heaton will be leading a weekly study of Tod Bolsinger's “Canoeing the Mountains.” This book provides the right mixture of theological insight, leadership theory, and relevant stories that will give the necessary principles to help leaders face unfamiliar terrain. Using the example of Lewis and Clark, who had to adapt to changes, while they had prepared to find a waterway to the Pacific Ocean, instead they found themselves in the Rocky Mountains. You too may feel that you are leading in a cultural context you were not expecting. You may even feel that your training holds you back more often than it carries you along.”

Rev. Heaton will share his love of canoeing and his thoughts about the church in the post-COVID world. If you are interested, you can find the book at:
